PENJURU.ID | Jakarta – The Merdeka Belajar program proposed by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture is still being debated by academics and education experts. In comparison to the Ministry of Education and Culture program, the Buya Hamka Study Center (PSBH) invited the speakers to discuss Merdeka Belajar program. This event was held through Zoom on Tuesday, (28/07/2020).
The speakers who attended this discussion were Prof. Fasli Jalal, Deputy Minister of Education and Culture (Wamendikbud) 2010-2011, Muhammad Yuanda Zara, P.hD and Prof. Samsul Nizar is a specialist in Islamic Education and is also the Chancellor of STAIN, Bengkalis.
The theme of the discussion delivered by the Deputy Chairperson of the PSBH (Buya Hamka Study Center), Budi Johan was “The Paradigm of Free Education Learning in the Style of Hamka”. The concept of Merdeka Belajar is seen from the perspective of Buya Hamka.
Bunyamin as Deputy Chancellor IV of Hamka University said that the Merdeka Belajar program conducted by the Ministry of Education and Culture was not new, however Hamka had also applied the concept of Merdeka Belajar before.
According to Deputy Chairman of PSBH, the concept of Merdeka Belajar which was applied by Buya Hamka was considered a success. This success can be seen based on his achievements as a Doctor of Honoris Causa from Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
Nizar as a speaker in the discussion said, the concept of Merdeka Belajar which was carried out by the Ministry of Education and Culture did not explain clearly about Merdeka Belajar which was implemented by Buya Hamka.
“What Buya Hamka said is even clearer to us than what is shown, which was popularized lately,” said Nizar.
The discussion was attended by more than 100 people from various institutions such as: USU Medan, Metro IAIN, PW Aisyiyah, West Sumatra, Bengkalis STAIN, MAN 2 Banyumas, Muhammadiyah Purbalingga High School, Bukittinggi and Simak Institute (The Institute of Islamic Studies and Culture).
