Migrants Student Left Yogyakarta Due Corona

All university in Indonesia sent their students to online lectures since it is still not possible to hold a regular lecture due to corona virus outbreak. Since the lectures are done online, lots of migrant students left Yogyakarta to their hometown.

Head of LLDIKTI Region V, Proof Didi Akhjari said that there is no information of how many student who haven’t returned to Yogyakarta since the online lectures started. “The records of the students who haven’t returned to DIY is done by each campus,” said Prof. Didi, Saturday (1/8/20).

Meanwhile, according to Asosiasi Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Indonesia (APTISI) DIY had done a survey to 51 private university in DIY with 403 study programs surveyed. The result was there are 142.219 active students, 5.225 active lecturer and 3.894 active educators. “This survey was taken from 51 private university across DIY on 1st July, 2020.” said Head of APTISI DIY, Fathul Wahid.

The result was there are 57.334 students (40%) are native residents of DIY and 84.885 (60%) are migrants. From the survey data of migrants, APTISI obtained 22.928 (27%) migrant students who were still in DIY and 61.957 migrant students had returned to their hometown.

Assuming from the expenses of migrant students is Rp. 3.028.850 according to Bank Indonesia, the decrease of the money supply has reached a fantastic amount, which is 187.7 billion/month or Rp. 6.3 billion/day,” said Fathul Wahid.

Head of APTISI predicted that new students will hesitate to register to university in DIY since there are still a lot of migrant students who haven’t yet returned to DIY. Therefore, APTISI design a domain for new students to register to private universities through Joghaversitas.id.
